NIPALA

Hair: Red

Eyes: Black

DOB: June 4

Age: 36 at start of FFVII

History: Nipala has no knowledge of where she was born. Her parents did not tell her, and of course, she couldn't remember herself. All she knew was that it was somewhere in the wilderness. Before Nipala was born her father, Merko, vied with Nanaki's father, Seto, for guardianship of Cosmo Canyon. At the time Merko was the chief negotiator for the canyon. He negotiated a peace treaty with a neighboring tribe, but the tribe betrayed him and attacked Cosmo Canyon. Though they were beaten off, Seto soon accused Merko of collaborating with the tribe to try to destroy the canyon. Merko was found guilty and sentenced to death, but he and his wife fled the canyon before the sentence could be carried out, never to return.

Merko and his wife spend the rest of their lives wandering, never staying in one place too long. Nipala's earliest memories were of wandering in the forests with her parents. They were the only companionship she had.

Yet they couldn't live forever, especially in such a dangerous enviorment. Eventually, her father was killed by poachers, and her mother died when she sustained injuries while hunting. Though Nipala was 30 at the time, that was still considered young in the years of her people, and it was difficult for her to learn to survive on her own. As far as she knew, she could never go to Cosmo Canyon, could never return to her people, for at the time Merko fled, the law stated that if the death sentence was not carried out, it would carry over to the convicted person's children. If she went back to Cosmo Canyon she thought she would be executed in Merko's place. She did not know that this law had been abandoned long before she was born.

Yet, in spite of the difficulties, she somehow managed to survive. She was perfectly content to live her life alone, just asking that no one bother her. But that was not to be. Eventually, Nanaki spotted her near the Gaia cliffs. Once he knew of the existance of another of his kind, he was determined to find her again. But when she discovered them following her she fled, thinking Nanaki had come to force her to return to Cosmo Canyon and face their justice. While Nanaki was pursuing her, a hunter named Dannako also happened upon her trail. With some difficulties, Reeve convinced her he was a friend, and helped her defeat Dannako. Soon after Nanaki told her the truth, that the law she was afraid of had been stricken from the books, and she was free to return with him to her people's ancient home, Cosmo Canyon
